I am a cybersecurity expert and offer services to local retired folks and have done so for more than 2 decades. It is an extremely valuable service to them for them to have a local person they have had a long-term relationship with that can be called upon to safeguard their digital life. There are things that can be done about these issues listed above. Use of consumer grade tech will not get the job done though.

First off, thank you for what you do, that's very beautiful. And I think you are spot on. People need to have relationships in place BEFORE a moment like this arises. One expert recently compared it to having a battle buddy in the military. There is research which shows that talking to just one other person in a potential scam situation helps stop the crime...there's just something about saying things out loud to others that helps us make sense of things. This is why scammers work so hard to isolate victims ("Don't tell anyone!") So one other piece of advice I try to give -- be the person in your family/friend group who is approachable, non-judgemental, and a reliable confidant! One day, it could mean the world to someone.
