Many of you know how much I care about independent journalism. Not just the not Republican or not Democratic kind. I mean truly independent, like me. What I sometimes call "sustainable journalism." Solo or small groups of journalists working to get the news out without the support of a major media organization. I've been working with the University of Georgia's Grady College (the Peabody folks) for several years -- specifically, the school's Cox Institute for Journalism Innovation, Management and Leadership -- to create some kind of organization to support small-time reporters with big ideas. I'll share more news on that front soon.
But for now, I did a podcast in Athens recently where I talk about theses issues and I thought I'd share it here. Student Daniel Funke does an excellent job of drawing me out on some of my less favorite topics (shoes!). And why I found myself saying we need Thursday Boot Journalism right alongside Shoe Leather Journalism. Have a listen.
