Are lawmakers looking into Apple Pay, Venmo and other cash app services favored by scammers? I fell for a ticket selling scam where the guy posted on Craigslist then used a burner phone and email address to entice me to pay for electronic tickets using Apple Pay. Of course as soon as I sent the money it was game over. He tried to double his take by having me “reauthorize” the transaction, claiming it hadn’t gone through the first time. That was fishy enough for me to walk away but not before losing $250. I filed a fraud complaint with BofA, since the funds came from a debit card attached to Apple Pay. They filed it but it was quickly rejected. Word to the wise: don’t use cash apps to buy things or pay people unless you really know the recipient or are standing in front of them. It’s just too much of a crap shoot.
